Company Profile

Titan Retail is a multinational retail corporation based in the United States, specializing in general merchandise and groceries. With over 2,000 stores across the country and a strong online presence, Titan Retail generates billions in annual revenue. The company aims to stay at the forefront of technological innovations to provide a seamless shopping experience while maintaining security for its customers.

Project Goals

The primary goal of the project was to create an advanced monitoring system and a real-time dashboard to detect, prevent, and reduce fraudulent activities, both in-store and online. By leveraging DevOps strategies, the system would provide immediate alerts and insights for the security team to act swiftly on suspicious transactions.

Client Needs

Titan Retail required a robust fraud monitoring solution to tackle the growing issue of financial and identity theft within its retail ecosystem. The client’s needs included:

  • Real-time monitoring of transactions across all sales channels (in-store and online).
  • An intuitive dashboard with detailed analytics and fraud detection metrics.
  • Integration with existing infrastructure and third-party security tools.
  • Scalability to handle the increased load during peak shopping periods like holidays and sales events.

Duration

The project was completed over a period of three months, including design, development, testing, and deployment.

Engineers Deployed

A team of six engineers from SAS was deployed, including DevOps specialists, backend developers, and data security experts.

Technologies Used

  • Monitoring Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch for monitoring and visualization.
  • Database Management: MySQL for transactional data and MongoDB for non-transactional data.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: AWS for hosting and scaling the solution.
  • Security Tools: Snort and Suricata for real-time intrusion detection.

Challenges and Solutions

One of the major challenges was ensuring real-time monitoring without affecting the overall performance of the existing transactional system. To solve this, SAS set up a scalable architecture on AWS that allowed processing and analyzing large volumes of data in real-time without lag or downtime. Another challenge was integrating the fraud prevention solution with Titan Retail’s legacy systems. SAS engineers developed API integrations to bridge the gap between the new system and existing infrastructure without disrupting operations.

Additionally, ensuring a seamless user interface for the security dashboard required collaboration with Titan Retail’s internal teams. By conducting multiple feedback sessions, SAS was able to design a user-friendly dashboard that displayed critical fraud metrics and alerts in an easily digestible manner.

Results

The implementation of the monitoring and dashboard system led to a 35% decrease in fraudulent transactions within the first six months. Titan Retail’s security team was able to respond to incidents in real-time, reducing financial losses and increasing customer trust. Additionally, the scalable nature of the solution ensured smooth operation during high-traffic periods, with no interruptions to business processes.
